Don't stress! Let us guide you through the roofing damage insurance claims process.

Insurance Claims Assistance in Texas

After severe weather like hail, wind, or a falling tree causes major damage to your home, it’s time to file an insurance claim. Filing insurance claims can be confusing, intimidating and tedious. Most insurance companies want to properly service their clients’ claims, but it is still important to understand the proper procedures and exactly what questions to ask. Down Home Roofing & Construction can help guide you through the insurance process and give you the repairs you need.

Understanding the Insurance Claims Process

If your home is damaged by a storm, it's important to quickly begin the insurance and repair process. Here is how a typical claims process works:

  1. ASSESSING THE DAMAGE: Sometimes roof damage is as obvious as a section of missing shingles or a fallen tree on your roof. This is not always the case, however, which is why it's important to call an experienced roof inspector like Down Home Roofing as soon as possible. Our inspection will tell you how much damage you have and whether repairs or replacement are needed. If we feel the damage is significant enough, filing an insurance claim will be the next step.

  2. FILING A CLAIM: You should always call your insurance carrier’s claims office, not your insurance agent. For your convenience, we’ve compiled the numbers to most of the larger insurance companies’ claims offices on this page.

  3. CLAIMS ADJUSTMENT: The insurance company will send send a claims adjuster to inspect the roof and determine the value of the roof. While this is in many ways similar to the assessment we perform, the insurance company will want to assess it themselves—our assessment simply lets the home owner know whether or not a claim should be filed.

  4. INSURANCE APPROVAL: After the adjuster’s assessment, the insurance company will send the homeowner a summary of damages as well as the first check. This check is generally about half of the amount needed to cover the repair or replacement of the damaged roof. Don’t worry! Another check will come later. Down Home Roofing can view this paperwork and discuss with the home owner the accuracy of the summary and payment estimates.

  5. ROOF REPAIR: Following a roof claim, you will have a set time limit to repair the covered damage, depending on your insurance company. After everything is cleared with the insurance company, we will provide you with complete roof repairs or full roof replacement.

  6. FINISHING THE PROCESS: Once the work is completed, we send the final invoice to your insurance company. They will release the remainder of the money and give you a second check to cover the remaining cost of the work done to your home.

After a storm, you’ll probably get a visit from "door-to-door" roofers from out of town, offering to inspect your roof. When you choose Down Home Roofing & Construction, you choose peace of mind knowing you're working with a local, insured and experienced roofing company that belongs to your community and can help you through the entire claims and repair process.
